Requirements: none
The group directory can be accessed in two ways:
- Via the ‘Join others’ menu item in the group list of the context bar.
- Via a link added by a network admin (e.g. in the main navigation of the network). The name of the link can be defined by the network admin. The most common names are:
-
- Groups
- Group directory
- Dropdown: Directories -> User, Groups
Members can use the group directory to view all groups in the network (except hidden groups).
The group directory is structured according to the sections in the network. A tab represents a section. By clicking on a tab, the group directory of this section is displayed.
There are differences in how groups are displayed. For example, for open and closed groups. Network admins can use the search and filter functions for a better overview of the directory. The number of groups displayed per page (10, 25, or 50) can also be adjusted.
Closed groups #
Closed groups are marked with a lock icon
. Users are not able to join these groups directly. There are two ways to join:
If moderation is active for the group, a membership request can be made via the ‘Membership request’ button. This must be accepted by a group admin before you can become a member of the group.
There are also groups to which members can only join by invitation. These groups are marked with a lock icon. Users are not able to initiate membership requests independently.
The available types of membership requests are configured by the group admin in the group administration.
Hidden groups #
Hidden groups do not appear in the group directory and can only be viewed by users who have a membership.
Joining is only possible via an invitation from a group admin.
Leave group #
For groups in which the user has a membership, there are two options available directly via the directory:
- Leave group
- Subscribe (-> enables a notification to be sent by email for every new post in the group)
View of hidden groups for admins without membership:
Network admins can also see hidden groups in the directories.
Subscribe to group #
For groups in which the user has a membership, the user can subscribe to a group via the directory. By subscribing, the user is sent a notification by email for every new post that appears in the group. To do this, click on ‘Subscribe’.
Common use cases
Keeping up-to-date with posts on your network can be very helpful, not just for community managers. In particular in the case of many different groups with many members, it is crucial that key information reaches members as quickly as possible. From the context menu of a group, select “Subscribe” to keep yourself up-to-date during the workday.
Add group to favourites #
Groups in which the user has a membership can be marked as favourite. This function is found in the group itself and can be activated via the ‘star’ icon next to the group name. Clicking the icon will add the group to the user´s favourites.
The result: Even if a section is collapsed in the context bar, the list of favourited groups remains visible, allowing direct access.
Common use cases
If a user has many group memberships, they can tidy up their view of the network by favouriting groups. Particularly important areas remain visible on the first level, while less relevant areas are only visible on the second level. This creates a clear overview of the context bar and facilitates using the tixxt network.
Search bar #
There is a separate search bar ‘Search in (Name of section)’ in the group directory, which can be used to search for groups in the respective section. By default, the search results are based on the name of the group.
Note: The ‘Name of section’ is defined by the network admins in the administration.
Example:
- Name of the group: Exchange North Rhine-Westphalia State Association
The group can be found by searching for ‘exchange’ and also for ‘State Association’ or ‘North Rhine’.
It is also possible to customise the search so that details from ‘Name and profile’ are searched and added to the search results. To do this, the user can use the filter option. This filter feature can be accessed by clicking on the filter icon to the right of the search bar.
Alphabetical list #
The group directory can be filtered alphabetically. This filter feature can be accessed by clicking on the filter icon to the right of the search bar.
The first letter of the group name determines the filter.
Search archive #
The group directory can also be used to filter for archived groups. This filter feature can be accessed by clicking on the filter icon to the right of the search bar. There you can tick the box ‘Search archive’, which means that only archived groups are displayed in the directory.
Add group #
If you have the appropriate permission, you can create a new group for the section using the ‘Add group’ button.
Note: The exact text on the button is based on the name for ‘Groups’ within the respective section which is defined by the network admin.
After clicking on the button, you are redirected accordingly and can create a new group.
