Types of Posts

The posts module can be accessed by clicking on the ‘Posts’ icon in the module bar on the left. Here you can find the feeds (posts) of the respective context (network level and groups), in which existing posts can be viewed, interacted with and, depending on permission, even edited.

Posts module/Post/Posts #

Requirements: none

The text post is the most frequently used post type and is the first option in the post editor.

The ‘Text’ button at the top of the post editor can be used to create a post in text form. This post type is active by default in the post editor. Clicking on ‘Compose post’ opens a text field where the user can enter and edit their text.

How to motivate your user base

Emojis lighten up the conversation

Depending on the context, the use of emojis in a post can lighten the mood. You are writing about the upcoming company Christmas dinner? An anniversary is just around the corner? Targeted and respectful use of emojis can create a playful atmosphere. Even if communication on your network usually involves serious topics, consider creating a little bit of fun when appropriate.

Question post #

Requirements: none

Beyond the ‘Question’ option, there are also two more specific options, namely ‘Poll’ and ‘Schedule appointment’.



How to activate your user base

Ask the experts

A “Question” post can be used to ask other members for answers to a specific question. As opposed to a “Poll”, no answers are pre-selected. Rather, it is an open question. This can be useful for very specific questions that require a broader answer. In most cases, the person asking will not know the answer themselves, so he or she puts the question to the experts. For this type of post, the answers and comments sections are separated in order to easily distinguish between the two.

Poll #

Requirements: none

The poll is a variant of the question post. The user, as the person publishing the poll, can provide other users with possible answer options from which they can then select.

The poll function can be accessed via the ‘Question’ button in the post editor. There are three different options below the input field. By clicking on the second option ‘Poll’, new input fields and buttons appear that can be used to create a poll.

How to make a post interactive

Make a meeting protocol available to every group member by publishing it as a post. Depending on your group settings, the post can be edited by all members.
Also consider creating a checklist as a post and working on it collaboratively. For this, we recommend using the “Poll” option for a question post and enabling the option for users to add answers. This allows users to create a collaborate on a checklist and complete items one-by-one.

Other use cases for a poll:

  • Collecting topics
  • Evaluating demand
  • Gathering feedback
  • Gauging opinions
  • Testing the mood

Poll options #

All information on the poll can be entered in the input field at the top. Various answer options can then be defined below the input field. Answers A or B are available as standard, but any number of answers can be entered using the ‘Another answer…’ button. Below this button, there are three further options for customising the poll:

  1. ‘Let users add answers’: If this option is selected, participants have the opportunity to specify their own answer options. This selection is then also available for all users to choose from in addition to the existing answer options.
  2. ‘Multiple answers can be given’: Selecting this option allows multiple poll answering options to be selected when voting. If this option is not activated, participants can only select one answer.
  3. ‘Anonymous poll’: If this option is selected, the poll does not show who has voted. It only shows how many people have voted in total and for which options.

As soon as the poll has been published and all attendees have voted, the poll results can be exported by the creator or the section administrator via the context menu. Polls can also be closed via the context menu. It is no longer possible to vote from this point on.

How to activate your user base

Releasing a file / topic for publication via poll

The post editor of a group can be used to release a topic or a file for publication. This can be done easily via a poll: From the post editor, select “Question” -> “Poll” and type in the request for release. In a second step, set the available answers, for example: “Yes, the file is complete” or “No, the file is incomplete. “Please add…”. We recommend adding the options “Let users add answers” and “Multiple answers can be given”, so that users can give appropriate responses and make reasonable suggestions. Don´t forget to add the file in question!

Schedule appointment #

Requirements: none

The ‘Schedule appointment’ function is a variant of the question post. The user, as the person publishing the poll, can suggest dates/times for appointments to other users, from which they can then choose.

The ‘schedule appointment’ function can be accessed via the ‘Question’ button in the post editor. There are three different options below the input field. By clicking on the third option ‘Schedule appointment’, new input fields and buttons appear that can be used to generate a scheduling request.

How to enhance collaboration

Scheduling appointments: No other tool needed

When planning a meeting, use the “Question” → “Schedule appointment” option in the post module. This can be helpful, even for users who do not log in often. Instead of using an external tool for scheduling appointments, simply copy the link to your post via the context menu and send it by email. Kill two birds with one stone: your meeting can be scheduled successfully, and inactive users are drawn to the platform.de

Schedule appointment #

All information regarding the schedule appointment request and a tag can be entered in the input field at the top. The user can then enter any number of suggested appointments/times. Buttons for suggestion 1 and suggestion 2 are available by default. Further selection options can be specified by clicking on ‘Add a new appointment option’.

  1. Below this button, there are three further options for customising the schedule appointment request:
  2. ‘Allow creating appointments’: If this option is selected, attendees can add scheduling suggestions to the selection. This selection is then also available for all users to choose from in addition to the existing suggestions.
  3. ‘Multiple answers can be given’: Selecting this option allows multiple scheduling suggestions to be selected when voting. If this option is not activated, attendees can only select one choice.
  4. ‘Additional option: None of the time options fit’: If this option is selected, it is possible to see which user cannot choose any of the specified options.

Once the schedule appointment request has been published and all attendees have voted, the scheduling request can be closed by the creator or the admin of the section via the context menu. It is no longer possible to vote from this point on.

Appointment post #

Requirements: none

The appointment post links the posts module with the appointments module and ensures that appointments are easily noticed by users. This is the third option next to the question post in the post editor.

An appointment post can be created using the ‘Appointment’ button in the post editor. Clicking on this takes the user to the “New appointment” menu in the appointment module. In this case, the appointment option “Also post this item to the stream” is automatically preselected. Any text already entered for the post will be retained as the appointment description in the new appointment. Similarly, the visibility settings selected in the previously created post are now selected as the calendar settings.

Clicking on “Save” creates a new appointment and, if the “Also post this item to the stream” option is selected, automatically publishes it as a post.
